To help birders get into the spirit for Halloween, here’s my brand new essay in The Conversation about the disappearance of Whip-poor-wills from American horror film. Inspired by a new adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Salem’s Lot, which seems to go out of its way not to engage with King’s appreciation for Whip-poor-wills, the addresses the cultural effects of species decline.
