Back on May 1, I visited a few open spaces in Jefferson County, Colorado. I noted birds, of course, but was really after wildflowers. It’s early — not much is blooming (except the remarkable pasque flowers). Still, one of my favorite plants, Spearleaf Stonecrop, looked the part.

Willow Pinecone Gall. Spot the bird. ID the bird.
Ruby-crowned Kinglet. So uncommon to see the crown flared.
Prairie Pasqueflower (Pulsatilla patens)
Birds and blooms at seven or eight thousand feet.
Darling little plants. Spearleaf Stonecrop (Sedum lanceolatum)
